Putin says Russia holds world’s second-largest coal reserves

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Russia possesses the second-largest coal reserves in the world, asserting the mineral wealth remains a cornerstone of the national economy. Speaking through a video message on Miner's Day, Putin emphasized Russia's ongoing global leadership in coal despite the industry's current challenges. He stated that the nation holds the third position in coal exports and the sixth in coal production.

Putin reaffirmed that Russia fulfills domestic demand for both coking and thermal coal. During the previous year, Russia maintained coal production at 440 million tonnes. Furthermore, Putin noted a significant increase in labor productivity, which rose by 18% over a five-year period. The president stressed Russia's commitment to advancing the coal industry, promising to address transportation logistics optimization, workplace safety, miners' family well-being, and the enhancement of mining cities and towns.

Putin further highlighted the role of modern technologies and equipment in revolutionizing coal mining, describing it as an industry of the future. He also emphasized the necessity for workforce training and the elevation of mining professions, calling for Russia to prioritize these efforts to strengthen the sector's prestige.
