‘Powder Guy’ denies $32,000 visa fraud charges

Ibrahim Kailani Kpa, popularly known as "Powder Guy" and a social media influencer residing in Accra, has denied accusations of defrauding seven individuals of $32,000 by promising to secure visas for their travel to Nicaragua, Canada, and the United States. The 28-year-old tiler appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, where his legal team requested bail, which was granted with a GH¢400,000 bail amount and the requirement of three sureties, including a family member.

The prosecution opposed the bail application, citing ongoing investigations. According to the prosecution, Kpa advertised on TikTok and Facebook that he could secure visas for travel to these countries at affordable rates, leading several people to pay him between $2,000 and $9,000 totaling $32,000 for visa assistance. Despite assuring them of visa acquisition within two weeks, the visas never materialized, and Kpa became unreachable.

The complainants reported him to the police, who arrested him in East Legon. During his arrest, Kpa admitted receiving the money, which he claimed was disbursed to his accomplices to secure the visas. However, he failed to provide investigators with their whereabouts. The court has ordered Kpa to report to the case investigator as directed.
