Police confirm drowning after Kenyir boat hits tree stump, victim trapped beneath overturned vessel

KUALA BERANG, Aug 30 — A tragic drowning incident occurred when an elderly woman was struck by a tree stump and capsized her boat, leading to her tragically falling into the water. The victim, 63-year-old Wan Esah Wan Daud from Felda Chiku in Kelantan, was on a holiday with 27 family members who had journeyed to Tasik Kenyir in Hulu Terengganu.

At around 11am, she and three other family members boarded a houseboat, which was parked at Gua Bewah, to embark on a sightseeing adventure by boat. Unfortunately, at about 4pm, the boat collided with a tree stump, causing the victim to become trapped beneath the overturned vessel. Despite her family member's attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), there were no positive signs, and she was eventually rescued by other family members and taken to the houseboat.

The victim, who had a history of lung disease, succumbed to drowning. Sharudin Abdul Wahab, the Hulu Terengganu police chief, urged the public to prioritize safety during recreational activities, particularly in lakes and rivers.
