Petronas angkat puisi ‘Jangan Kau Kata’ sempena Hari Kebangsaan

Petronas has revived National Poet Muhammad Salleh's poem "Jangan Kau Kata" for Malaysia's 69th Independence Day and National Day 2026. The poem, titled "Jangan Kau Kata," focuses on the importance of not judging a society solely based on outward appearances, without understanding their culture, lifestyle, and values.

"Jangan Kau Kata" was originally penned by Muhammad Salleh in 1972 and serves as a powerful narrative tool. The poem critiques perceptions of a nation as lazy, weak, uncultured, and poor, while highlighting the richness of cultural and communal life through various art forms such as syair, pantun, wayang kulit, tenunan songket, folk songs, and rural living.

Repeatedly stating "don't you," the poem serves as a warning against quickly forming opinions or stereotyping others. The visual presentation of Muhammad's poem in the film incorporates representations of Malaysia's diverse daily life, including cultural customs, traditions, and harmonious living among various communities.

Although written over five decades ago, "Jangan Kau Kata" still carries a message relevant to contemporary Malaysian society. Values such as respecting others, coexistence, preserving culture, and continuing the legacy of past generations are all emphasized through this work.

The film also encourages viewers to reconsider Malaysia's identity and appreciate the values and culture that have shaped the nation. Since its release on Petronas' official YouTube channel on August 26, "Jangan Kau Kata" has been viewed over one million times.
