Nigeria expresses concern over political crisis in Niger

Nigeria has expressed deep concern over the political and security crisis unfolding in Niger following an attempted coup in the country's capital, Niamey. The government emphasized the importance of stability in Niger, given the strong historical, cultural, and fraternal ties between the two nations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, made this statement in Abuja on Sunday.

According to the government, the recent clashes between mutinous soldiers and security forces, targeting sensitive sites like the presidential palace and a military base at the international airport, have raised serious concerns. The junta in Niger claimed it had regained control, describing the incident as a "destabilization plot."

The Nigerian government stressed that any use of force to resolve political differences undermines the goal of stability. They urged all parties to work together towards a peaceful resolution that ensures democracy, development, and regional peace.
