Nepal floods leave 55 Malaysians uncontactable, 36 more missing in China, says ministry

KL, Aug 30 — As of 8pm on Saturday, 91 Malaysians remained uncontactable following floods that hit Nepal and China on Aug 26, according to the Foreign Ministry. The ministry will continue collaborating with Chinese and Nepalese authorities and verify figures from both nations to prevent duplicate reporting. They asked media and the public to rely on the ministry's figures, which could change as contact is established with affected Malaysians and additional reports are received.

The ministry acknowledges the heightened concern over the limited public information on uncontactable individuals and stated that such details are shared directly with verified next of kin. Consular officers have reached out to all verified next of kin with available information to update on current developments. Personal details will not be released publicly without the consent of the immediate next of kin.

The ministry emphasized that the welfare of Malaysians reported uncontactable and their families is their top priority, urging all parties to respect their privacy and rely on official information as consular efforts continue. To assist Malaysians and their families, the ministry urged next of kin to contact their Operations Room (24/7, +603 8887 4570 or dutyofficer@kln.gov.my) and also the respective Malaysian embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing, sharing details with the Ministry's Operations Room.
