National Day: Early birds flock to Dataran Putrajaya for prime spots, best shots

PUTRAJAYA: Anticipating Malaysia's 69th National Day celebration, crowds flocked to Dataran Putrajaya as early as the evening before, with some even camping overnight to secure the best vantage points along the parade route. For photography enthusiasts Mock Wei Qi and his friends, arriving at 11pm, the event offered a chance to capture unique, cinematic footage showcasing Malaysia's distinctive features.

Mock expressed, "We are looking for the best spots to capture creative and cinematic views. We want to show the world how special our country is." The freelance photographer saw the National Day celebration as an ideal platform to test his skills and document memorable moments through his lens.

Meanwhile, a married couple, known as As and Adib, made an early arrival at 5pm, hoping to improve their viewing experience after a late arrival last year. "Last year, we arrived late and ended up quite far from the main area. This time, we decided to come early to get a spot closer to the celebration and enjoy a better view," Adib shared.

For Ahmad Azri Onn, bringing his family to camp overnight turned the wait for the celebration into an enjoyable camping experience. With his wife and three children ranging from 10 to 15 years old, Ahmad Azri remarked, "Having arrived at about 5.30pm yesterday, my family was thrilled to get a good viewing spot, giving the children a chance to experience the National Day celebration firsthand during the school holidays."

The drizzle experienced yesterday proved beneficial, offering some relief from the heat, and ensuring the children's comfort throughout the event. The 69th National Day celebration, themed Malaysia Madani: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati, was set to commence at 8am, and Dataran Putrajaya witnessed a steady influx of attendees throughout the morning.
