MP’s Satna Floods: Army Helicopter Airlifts Trapped People As 5 Inches Rain Pounds District In Hours

Around 50 individuals were rescued in Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday after being trapped by the recent floods. An Army helicopter was deployed to airlift the stranded people from 12 villages affected by the sudden downpour. The rapid rainfall, amounting to approximately 5 inches within a span of 3-4 hours over the past 24 hours, led to a catastrophic flood scenario in five tehsils: Majhgawan, Nagod, Birsinghpur, Raghurajnagar (Satna), Kothi.

The district administration officials reported that National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SDRF teams, along with an Army helicopter, were all put to work for the rescue mission in the severely affected 12 villages. The Mandakini River continued to surge, and the breach of the Gorgi Dam exacerbated the situation, causing water to inundate several areas.

A bridge measuring around 300 meters at Chitrakoot s Ramghat was washed away due to the relentless rains. All eight sluice gates of Bansujara dam were opened to mitigate the pressure, but the onslaught of torrential rains had disrupted normal life in Satna district and the holy town of Chitrakoot. The rivers and streams had swollen, leading to a flood-like situation in multiple residential areas.

Satna collector Satish Kumar S informed the media that the rescue operation had successfully saved 50 people from the 12 severely flood-hit villages. In Madhya Pradesh, the weather update for August 29, 2026, warned of heavy rain alerts in seven districts, including Bhopal, as showers continued to pelt the region.
