Spain's Enric Mas asserts his claim to the red jersey with a commanding win on the ninth stage of the Vuelta a Espana.
Spanish rider Enric Mas claimed victory in the ninth stage of the Vuelta a Espana, asserting his position in the leader's red jersey. The 31-year-old, who inherited the red jersey after Tadej Pogacar's withdrawal, triumphed on a 187km uphill climb to the summit of Aitana. Mas, a three-time Vuelta runner-up, attacked three kilometers from the finish, outpacing British rider Oscar Onley and crossing the line in commanding fashion, marking his first win on home soil for Movistar in five years.
Mas now leads by one minute and 18 seconds over Primoz Roglic, who finished third, followed by Felix Gall, who remains in third place overall.
