Chiara Consonni wins resurrected Philadelphia Cycling Classic in a photo finish

After a decade-long absence, the women's cycling event known as the Philadelphia Cycling Classic returned to the city in 2023. The race, which took place over a 100-kilometre urban circuit featuring key landmarks such as Lemon Hill and the Manayunk Wall, was won by Italian cyclist Chiara Consonni. The final sprint was a tight photo finish, with Consonni edging out fellow Italian Alexandra Volstad and American Ella Sabo.

The race was marked by a crash that separated race-favorite Maggie Coles-Lyster from the lead group, but Consonni's team managed to maintain their advantage. Coles-Lyster herself suffered a crash just before the finish line, which may have cost her a podium finish. This event marked the resumption of one of North America's premier one-day cycling races, drawing a diverse field of WorldTour teams, Olympians, and national champions.
