Manhunt after woman, 22, killed and five injured in Swiss shooting

Police are conducting a manhunt after a tragic shooting at a rave in northern Switzerland, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old woman and injuries to five others. The incident occurred overnight at a horse racing track in Aarau, close to Zurich, during a rave that was still in progress. Four individuals aged between 24 and 27 were injured, with their injuries ranging from minor to severe.

The perpetrator's identity and motives remain unknown, as do the exact circumstances of the shooting. Police arrived at the scene around 02:30 local time (01:30 BST) on Sunday. Local media reported that the force was alerted to the incident shortly thereafter. The area around the racing track, the town's swimming pool, and sports field has been cordoned off, with the public advised to stay away.

A large number of officers have been deployed in the vicinity as a precaution. Swiss DJ Tekibo, who was performing at the event, expressed his grief on Instagram, stating that he had lost an important friend and was struggling to come to terms with the situation. A large contingent of armed officers has also been positioned beyond Aarau as a precaution.

The Swiss Army helicopter was reportedly seen surveying the area. Aarau, home to approximately 23,000 people, is located roughly 46km west of Zurich. The police force has requested witnesses to submit photographs and video from the scene, and the regional disaster response unit (KKE) and the Swiss Army have also been involved in the response effort.

Switzerland is known for its high rate of gun ownership, although violent shootings are relatively rare, and stricter controls have been implemented in recent years.
