Mahama to address AU Extraordinary Session in Luanda

President John Dramani Mahama is set to speak at an urgent African Union meeting in Luanda, Angola. The 21st Extraordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government is under way, with a key agenda item being to develop a detailed plan for preventing and resolving conflicts across the continent. The summit will examine current peace and security structures and aim to reach agreement on steps to improve cooperation, flexibility, implementation and funding for the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and African Governance Architecture (AGA).

The AU gathering comes at a critical time, as the continent faces numerous escalating security issues in places like Sudan, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Sahel, the Horn of Africa and Mozambique. President Mahama and other heads of state are expected to work together to craft practical strategies during the meeting, with the goal of enhancing regional stability and strengthening Africa's collective ability to promote peace.
