Level 5 Heavy Rain Warnings Issued for 3 Cities in Fukui Pref.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued the highest level of emergency rain warnings on Sunday morning for three cities in Fukui Prefecture, central Japan. These warnings were issued for the cities of Fukui, Ono, and Katsuyama, with Level 5 representing the most extreme risk. The alert came as the Reihoku region, which includes these three cities, experienced intermittent torrential rain due to a weather front.

The prefectural government established a disaster response headquarters in response to the severe weather. Authorities confirmed flooding in several residences, with water reaching above floor level in one home and below floor level in four others. A landslide was also reported in Fukui city. Despite these incidents, there were no confirmed casualties or injuries as of 8 a.m. local time.

By 6 a.m., the prefectural police had received 25 reports of stranded vehicles, flooded roads, and related incidents. Despite the dangerous conditions, residents were urged to take immediate action to protect their lives. The prefecture's Reihoku region braced for the heavy rain, with the emergency warnings a stark reminder of the potential dangers of such severe weather.
