Kenya can build more without heavy borrowing

Nairobi, Kenya - August 30 - According to Francis Atwoli, the head of the COTU, Kenya lacks substantial opposition without the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Atwoli emphasized that opposition leaders should acknowledge Odinga as the driving force that united the opposition while encouraging Kenyans to back President William Ruto.

"We show our respect for William Samoei Ruto as our leader and we will vote for him directly," Atwoli stated. "Without Raila, there is no opposition in Kenya," he added during a thanksgiving service in Kapseret Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Atwoli called for unity among leaders rather than fostering tribal divisions. "People want loyalty, not tribalism," he remarked. He also endorsed Kindiki, describing him as honest, pragmatic, practical, and loyal, praising his support for President Ruto. "You are the best of all. You are an honest leader, you are pragmatic, you are practical, you are loyal," Atwoli declared.

The labor leader cautioned politicians against using personal attacks for popularity, citing Rigathi Gachagua as an example. While admitting that insults can gain attention, Atwoli questioned whether such popularity was truly positive.

Atwoli urged Kenyans to unite and support peace, warning against political divisions and violence. He cautioned that Kenya should learn from conflicts in other regions where civilians continue to suffer due to war. Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Atwoli maintained that political leaders should prioritize unity and development.
