J.J. McCarthy makes Vikings' final roster despite speculation he was on the bubble

McCarthy, selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, missed his first season due to a knee injury. However, he was chosen over Sam Darnold to be the Vikings' starter for the 2025 season. Despite an impressive performance in the season opener, the Vikings quickly ditched McCarthy. They made him compete with Carson Wentz to be Murray's backup, a strong indication of their lack of confidence in him.

Over the past few seasons, McCarthy's situation in Minnesota has worsened. He struggled to run the offense, took on more injuries, and the Vikings missed the playoffs. In the offseason, Minnesota actively sought a new starter, eventually landing on Murray, who ended up failing with the Arizona Cardinals.
