‘In America, behave true to America’: Mohan Bhagwat tells Indian diaspora to fulfil duty to ‘karma bhumi’

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized to the Indian diaspora in New York City that America should be treated as their duty and responsibility, as their country of residence is their karma bhumi. Speaking at the 'Universal Oneness Celebration' at Madison Square Garden, Bhagwat highlighted the importance of fulfilling their duties and loyalty to the country where they live while retaining the values received from their 'janma bhumi' or land of birth, India.

Bhagwat clarified that helping their country of birth should come after fulfilling responsibilities towards their karma bhumi, but it is not obligatory. He stressed on the unity of all humans and nature as key values, urging the diaspora to uphold these principles with oneness being one of the central principles. The visit by Bhagwat has drawn criticism from several US figures and civil society groups, who accused the RSS of promoting religious discrimination and violence against minorities in India.
