'I'll be back' - Itauma responds to world-title defeat

Moses Itauma expressed his determination to return after a disappointing attempt to become the second-youngest heavyweight world champion. The 21-year-old British boxer dominated his first 14 bouts before succumbing to Filip Hrgovic in the ninth round at London's O2 Arena. Struggling to keep pace with the experienced Hrgovic, 34, Itauma was forced to leave the arena on a stretcher and was subsequently taken to the hospital for precautionary medical checks.

In a post on social media, Itauma admitted, "It wasn't my night, we attempted greatness and just fell short to the more experienced man." Despite not achieving his desired outcome, the boxer emphasized that he had gained valuable experience for future fights, stating, "I believe I gained experience that I'll take to my future fights. God bless, take care and I'll be back."

The vacant IBF title was at stake, and Itauma was favored heading into the bout. However, Hrgovic, known for his durability, capitalized on his experience as it eventually proved decisive. Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren acknowledged that Itauma's previous invincibility aura was gone, suggesting that this setback may facilitate easier fight-making for the promising talent.

Warren confirmed his continued support for Itauma, emphasizing that the young boxer still possesses exceptional skills and needs to improve his ring craft and mindset.
