Ghana to face Nigeria for beach soccer AFCON qualifiers

Ghana and Nigeria have been drawn to face each other in the upcoming 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Beach Soccer AFCON qualifiers. The draw took place at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, forming part of the qualifying series for the continental finals set to take place in Senegal. Two of the region's most fierce rivals in beach soccer will compete over a two-leg tie, with the first matches scheduled for October 9 to 11, and the return fixtures between October 16 to 18.

The venue and kick-off times for the matches are yet to be confirmed. The winner of the tie will advance one step closer to the finals in Senegal, which will run from November 7 to 15. Senegal is the current reigning champion, having won the last five consecutive editions of the tournament, including the 2024 title in Egypt. Nigeria's Super Sand Eagles, although having lifted the title twice in the past, have not qualified for the last three FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups.

The Ghanaian team, known as the Black Sharks, will have the opportunity to prove their mettle against a traditional West African powerhouse. Many hope that the Ghana Football Association will announce Keta as the host city for the qualifiers, citing the city's large population and enthusiastic fanbase.
