Eldridge has 4 hits, drives in 4 runs as Giants beat Diamondbacks 7-2 to split doubleheader

In a doubleheader on Saturday night, Bryce Eldridge contributed with four hits and drove in four runs as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2. The Diamondbacks claimed an initial 7-1 victory in the first game. Arizona is currently tied with the San Diego Padres for the NL’s third wild-card spot. Yunior Marte, called up from Double-A Richmond, made his MLB debut as the Giants' starter in the second game, allowing one run on three hits over 4-2/3 innings and recording three strikeouts and two walks.

The lone run Marte conceded occurred due to a bloop double by Nootbaar, which scored Ildemaro Vargas with two outs in the third inning. This set the score at 1-1, which remained unchanged until the fifth inning. With runners on second and third and one out, Gerardo Carrillo replaced Mitch Bratt and walked Drew Gilbert before Rafael Devers hit a single to bring home a run, giving the Giants the lead.

Eldridge then added a two-run single to left-center, putting the Giants ahead 4-1. Eldridge had initially driven in Jonah Cox in the first inning with a single. In the eighth inning, Devers and Eldridge each delivered run-scoring singles, extending the Giants' lead to 5-2. Gilbert walked three times and scored three runs in the inning.

Reiver Sanmartin struck out Nootbaar, the only man he faced, to secure the win for Arizona (2-0). Arizona's Tim Tawa extended his on-base streak to 16 games with a double in the fourth inning. As for the future, the Diamondbacks will host the Phillies on Monday, while the Giants will play a makeup game in Atlanta on the same day.
