Nootbaar hits pinch grand slam in 7th to back Kelly in Diamondbacks' 7-1 win over Giants

In a thrilling first game of a doubleheader, Arizona Diamondbacks' Lars Nootbaar hit a crucial pinch grand slam in the seventh inning, giving the team a 4-0 lead against the San Francisco Giants. Merrill Kelly, who had an impressive week with a no-decision, shut down the Giants for seven innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven batters.

Matt "Tugboat" Wilkinson also contributed to the win, pitching six shutout innings and retiring 11 batters in a row. The Diamondbacks' offense was led by Nootbaar, who had already hit a home run in the previous game. The Giants' only scoring chance came in the fourth inning, when Turner Hill grounded to second base but was tagged out by Ildemaro Vargas.

The Giants' only run was scored by Taylor Clarke in the top of the eighth, on Jung Hoo Lee's single that brought Devers home. Diamondbacks starter Matt Wilkinson was replaced by Ryan Walker in the seventh inning. The Giants had an eventful game, with their coach Ron Wotus and pitchers Logan Webb ejected from the contest. In the second game of the doubleheader, Diamondbacks' left-hander Mitch Bratt was set to start against the Giants, whose starter was yet to be announced.
