Dutch federation calls for football summit without Infantino

The Dutch football federation (KNVB) has called for a summit to discuss the future of FIFA without current president Gianni Infantino. The 56-year-old Swiss official has faced criticism over his controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan, which aimed to introduce private investment into FIFA events, including the men's and women's World Cups.

The KNVB, in a letter to UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, expressed its loss of confidence in Infantino and the need for radical changes within FIFA. Infantino, elected in 2016, was expected to be re-elected unopposed to a fourth term in Rabat next March, following FIFA's World Cup success. However, his failed proposal has led to a decline in support, prompting Norway's FA to demand his resignation.

The KNVB proposes an International Summit on the Future of FIFA, to be hosted in Amsterdam, to discuss the club's vision and the leadership required to implement it. The federation outlined three priorities: good governance for a better balance of power, making football's social power a central focus, and increased investment in football worldwide.

The KNVB emphasized the importance of transparency, independent oversight, and the inclusion of critical voices in FIFA's decision-making process. The proposal invites all 211 member associations and confederations to participate in the summit, scheduled to take place before the 2027 presidential election.
