Chelsea signs Argentina’s World Cup winner Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa on a 3-year contract

Chelsea has officially brought Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez to Stamford Bridge on a three-year deal, following his six-season tenure at Aston Villa. The 33-year-old World Cup-winning goalkeeper expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, stating that the decision was easy for him and his family. Martínez emphasized his desire to win and contribute to Chelsea's history of success, vowing to give his all in every game.

A product of Argentine club Independiente, Martínez joined Arsenal as a 17-year-old in 2010, where he eventually broke into the first team. He helped Arsenal secure the FA Cup and the Community Shield before moving to Aston Villa in September 2020, where he became an essential part of the club's resurgence. Throughout his time at Villa Park, Martínez made 256 appearances and played a crucial role in Aston Villa's UEFA Europa League triumph in May.

On the international front, Martínez has been Argentina's first-choice goalkeeper since his debut in 2021, earning 67 caps. He played an instrumental part in Argentina's back-to-back Copa América victories in 2021 and 2024, as well as their World Cup triumph in 2022. For his exceptional performances, he was honored with the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the world's best goalkeeper, in both 2023 and 2024.
