Bryce Harper pulls off a straight steal of home, until it gets overturned on review

Bryce Harper, the star of the Philadelphia Phillies, attempted a daring steal of home plate during a game against the Los Angeles Angels. With two outs in the eighth inning, Harper dashed from third base, taking advantage of Angels reliever Trevor Martin's off-guard position. Although Martin quickly threw the ball to home plate, Harper managed to jump and was initially called safe after making contact with Angels catcher Travis d'Arnaud.

However, after review, the call was overturned, sparking controversy over whether Harper's hand truly made contact with the plate. d'Arnaud's body blocked the plate, which is permitted under MLB rules. The play was not Harper's only base attempt that inning, as teammate Trea Turner also tried to steal third base, but was caught by the umpire.

This was the second stolen base call to be reviewed in the inning. While Harper's play initially seemed thrilling, it ultimately proved to be a game-tying homer by Zach Neto in the bottom of the inning that sent the scoreless ninth inning to extra innings. In the end, Phillies' bases-running errors became irrelevant, as Harper and Turner contributed to a three-run rally in the top of the 10th, giving Phillies a 4-2 victory.

This win marked one of the most dramatic finishes of the series, as Phillies clinched a 76-60 record, solidifying their position in the NL wild-card race. The Angels, meanwhile, found themselves tied with the Colorado Rockies for the worst record in MLB at 52-84.
