Bing Crosby’s former Nevada ranch sells for $14.2 million

In the 1940s, Bing Crosby purchased several ranches in northeastern Nevada as an escape from Hollywood. One of these ranches, a 3,000-acre working cattle ranch in Elko County, sold off-market for $14.2 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. The price is nearly double the ranch's original 2019 asking price of $7.28 million.

Crosby owned seven ranches in the Elko area during the 1940s and 1950s and was an honorary mayor of Elko in 1948. The ranch that sold was part of his larger retreat, offering amenities like a five-bedroom house, private airstrip, and airplane hangar. The seller, Jim Boyer, a retired telecom entrepreneur, sold the ranch to break away from running it.

The property's value increased significantly due to its water resources and scarcity of large, well-watered Western ranches in the market. Crosby's name adds a layer of cultural history to the property, making it more attractive to buyers.
