Barau Attends World Hausa Day Celebration in Ghana

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, attended the World Hausa Day 2026 celebration in Accra, Ghana. He encouraged the youth to support the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage. The event, organized by Hausa Youth Ghana, took place at the State House Forecourt. Barau praised Hausa Youth Ghana for their efforts in promoting the Hausa language, culture, and heritage, noting that this initiative strengthens the bond between Ghana and Nigeria.

Accompanied by key Senate members, Barau highlighted the significance of World Hausa Day as a celebration of the rich heritage, language, culture, and identity of the Hausa people. He emphasized that Hausa serves as a bridge among West African communities, playing a crucial role in commerce, scholarship, diplomacy, literature, traditional institutions, and social interaction.

Barau stressed that the widespread usage of Hausa across national borders reflects the deep historical, cultural, and social connections among Africans.

He urged young people to lead in preserving, promoting, and modernizing the Hausa language, urging them to pursue quality education, acquire modern skills, and embrace innovation. Barau awarded scholarships to two Hausa community members in Ghana to study Hausa Language at Nigerian universities. He expressed warm greetings to the Government and people of Ghana, reaffirming the enduring friendship and strong relations between Ghana and Nigeria.
