Balanced refugee policy needed to address security, humanitarian concerns, says S’gor MB

Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari emphasized the importance of a balanced policy when addressing concerns related to refugees. He stated that such a policy is crucial to ensure that national security concerns are balanced with humanitarian considerations, particularly in light of the increasing number of refugees in the country.

Amirudin warned against taking drastic or emotionally-driven action on refugee issues, stating that a clear and comprehensive policy is necessary to prevent such actions. He highlighted the need for careful consideration of the calls for action on refugee issues, as the government seeks to provide protection while managing the burden posed by the large number of refugees.

Amirudin's comments specifically addressed the issue of Rohingya refugees, which has gained attention on social media. However, he clarified that some locations mentioned on social media fall under the administration of Kuala Lumpur and not within Selangor's jurisdiction. Amirudin cautioned that actions taken based solely on emotions could damage Malaysia's international image.

He stressed that the government is committed to taking legal action against refugees or foreigners who violate laws, such as running businesses without licenses and illegally occupying residential premises.
