27 motorists prosecuted for traffic offences in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has prosecuted 27 motorists for violating traffic laws during Operation Velvet, according to a recent statement. Police Public Relations Officer SP Shiisu Lawan Adam provided details, stating that the offenses included overloading, driving without valid licenses, and using unauthorized tinted permits.

The motorists were apprehended and their vehicles seized across the state, as part of the initiative to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations. The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, emphasized the operation's aim was not to target any group but to promote discipline, protect lives and property, and ensure strict adherence to traffic laws.

He urged motorists to obtain valid licenses, avoid overloading, and comply with vehicle registration and roadworthiness standards. The police warned against unauthorized tinted permits and stressed the importance of following traffic laws. The command announced that Operation Velvet would continue throughout Jigawa, including major towns, highways, and other strategic locations, and appealed for public cooperation. Law-abiding motorists were assured they had nothing to fear in this enforcement effort.
