15 friends build Twin Towers replica from 2,000 bottles for National Day

In Kampung Machang Limbat, a group of 15 friends embarked on an ambitious project to build a six-metre-high replica of the Petronas Twin Towers using over 2,000 discarded plastic bottles. The structure, completed within a few days, was inspired by the friends' shared dream of seeing the iconic KLCC towers up close in celebration of Malaysia's 69th Merdeka Day.

Mohamad Zul Ikwan Azhar, 28, revealed that the initiative was born from his personal aspiration to witness the Petronas Twin Towers in person. "I have always dreamed of seeing the Petronas Twin Towers in person, so we decided to build one here in our village as our own way of celebrating Merdeka," he shared.

The project cost around RM3,000, with the plastic bottles procured from a local recycling center. The friends worked tirelessly, dedicating three to four days to construct the six-metre tower, which was meticulously designed to mirror the appearance of the landmark towers. To add a patriotic touch, the tower was adorned with the Jalur Gemilang, Malaysia's national flag colors, in honor of the National Day celebration.

Mohamad Asyraf Pakhrurazi, 30, emphasized that the group aimed to provide the community with a meaningful experience during the 69th National Day festivities. "We wanted to do something different this Merdeka," he noted, adding that the completed structure had earned pride among the villagers.

The friends expressed their hope that their creation would not only attract visitors from neighboring villages but also instill a sense of patriotism and promote the reuse of discarded materials. The replica has quickly become a focal point for residents, drawing crowds eager to capture photographs with the homemade landmark.
