World : Iran, Oman Agree To Open Temporary Shipping Corridor Through Strait Of Hormuz: Top Security Official

Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route, following talks with Oman. However, this reopening is contingent on the United States fulfilling commitments outlined in a June memorandum, according to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The agreement between Iran and Oman specifies a route for ships to pass through the strategic waterway, with the arrangement communicated to Iran's supreme leader.

Pezeshkian stated that Iran will reopen the strait only if the US lifts sanctions, releases assets, begins investment, and ends the war in Lebanon. The negotiations have seen progress, with 12 out of 13 members of Iran's Supreme National Security Council voting in favor of the agreement. Pezeshkian emphasized that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz hinges on the US meeting its commitments under the memorandum, including the lifting of sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian funds.
