Winnipeg Blue Bombers offence shines in upset win over league-leading Alouettes

On Friday night in Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers' offence shone brightly, leading the Blue and Gold to a 44-28 win over the league-leading Montreal Alouettes. This marked the Bombers' best game of the season, as they averaged 450 yards per game, while the Alouettes' offense had the highest output in the CFL with 454.3 yards per game. Despite a stellar performance from Alouettes QB Davis Alexander, who threw for four touchdowns, the Winnipeg defence held them to just 284 yards.

Quarterback Zach Collaros had a solid outing, completing 324 yards and two touchdowns, while receiver Ontaria Wilson caught both of those passes and racked up 114 yards. Running back Brady Oliveira contributed significantly with 106 rushing yards on 16 carries. The opening half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams exchanging touchdowns and accumulating over 400 yards combined. Earlier touchdowns came from a one-yard sneak by Bombers QB Bryce Perkins and a 13-yard catch by CFL-leading receiver Tyson Philpot.

In the second quarter, Winnipeg extended its lead with touchdowns from Ontaria Wilson and Tyler Snead, while a field goal from Sergio Castillo kept the score close. However, a fumble by Tommy Nield at the one-yard line could have significantly impacted the game. In the third quarter, the Bombers' special teams had a crucial play, as Tanner Cadwallader blocked a punt and recovered it at the Montreal one-yard line. This momentum carried over as Perkins added another touchdown, putting the Bombers ahead by 10.

Despite Castillo's two subsequent field goals narrowing the gap to a 16-point lead, Winnipeg managed to maintain control. Wilson added his second touchdown reception of the game in the fourth quarter, while Snead finished with his third receiving touchdown. The final score of 44-28 marked a significant rebound for the Bombers, who now sit at 6-5, reclaiming third place in the CFL's West Division.

The Alouettes, meanwhile, dropped to a 9-2 record. The team's next match is against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Labour Day Classic, which takes place next Sunday in Regina.
