Why remand Kulai pair but not Perak MCA staff? Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng asks police after flag gaffe

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has criticized the police for applying double standards in their handling of cases involving the Jalur Gemilang flag. He highlighted the contrast between the four-day remand of two individuals in Kulai and the questioning of those involved in an incident at the Perak MCA headquarters without detention. Lim called on the Inspector-General of Police to explain the disparity in treatment and suggested that the IGP should resign if he cannot provide a satisfactory explanation.

He pointed out that the mistakes in all three cases were similar, yet the police response varied significantly depending on the individuals involved. Lim noted that Perak MCA had apologized for the upside-down display of the Jalur Gemilang and Perak flag at its headquarters in Ipoh, stating that the mistake was unintentional and corrected immediately.

However, he contrasted this with the Kulai incident, where two members of the public were detained and remanded for four days, and subjected to urine tests. Lim also mentioned an incident at the Kuala Terengganu City Council, where a Jalur Gemilang was displayed without the crescent and star. He accepted this as a "technical error" and stated that no arrests were made.

Lim maintained that if a mistake involving the display of the national flag was unintentional, immediately corrected, and followed by an apology, no one should be arrested. He emphasized that the police should not act harshly against ordinary people while showing leniency towards "VIPs" and government agencies, as this would be unjust and indicative of favoritism.
