US Open 2026: Who’s who as Argentine tennis stars take over New York

The 2026 US Open, the season's final tennis major, is fast approaching, set to commence at Flushing Meadows, New York, on Sunday. Among the participating athletes, 13 Argentine players will represent their country, comprising 11 in the men's singles and two in the women's.

A viral outburst during a Cincinnati practice session hinted at his frustration with the US hard court surface. Cerúndolo will face Austrian Filip Misolic (530) in the opening round.

On the women's side, Thiago Tirante, ranked 42 globally for the first time, enters the US Open with a career-high ranking. He recently secured a significant victory over Novak Djokovic, Argentina's 24-time grand slam winner, at Cincinnati. Tirante will encounter Adrian Mannarino (67), a formidable opponent.

Tomás Etcheverry and Sebastián Báez also aim to turn their recent fortunes around at Flushing Meadows. Etcheverry hasn't won a set since July 23 at Kitzbühel and lacks a grand slam victory since the Australian Open. Báez's form dipped after losses in Toronto and Cincinnati, resulting in his withdrawal from a match against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo in Winston-Salem. He faces Brandon Nakashima (17), a top-ranked American player, in the first round.
