Trump administration seeks to restrict internships for international students

The Trump administration has proposed a memo to universities aiming to limit certain internship work permits for international students, according to a report. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has noted an increase in Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorizations that seemingly violate established rules, which permit CPT only when it is a vital component of the established curriculum.

The memo, dated Monday, warns that non-compliance with SEVP regulations could result in a university losing its certification to enroll foreign students. This directive comes as the federal government emphasizes the importance of adhering to the regulations to maintain the validity of international student programs in U.S. institutions.
