Muslims must lead by example through morality and integrity, says Anwar

Bukit Mertajam, August 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Muslims must set a shining example for society through strong character, integrity, hard work, and a refusal to engage in corruption or wrongdoing. He explained that respect for Muslims should be based on the positive actions they display in everyday life, such as diligent work, keeping commitments, and avoiding deceit or theft.

Anwar made these remarks at a Maulid Akbar ceremony held at Masjid Tengah during National Day celebrations. Dr Zulkifli Hasan, a minister in the Prime Minister's Department responsible for religious affairs, was also present. Anwar highlighted that Islam promotes compassion and goodness for everyone, and as such, Muslims should protect relationships and the well-being of the entire community, irrespective of race or religion.

The Prime Minister stressed that Malaysian development, known as Malaysia Madani, cannot rely solely on policies, economic growth, or technological progress without a solid core of faith, morality, and character. "While reaching for the sky, we must remain rooted in the earth," Anwar said, meaning that values and moral principles must be preserved.

He also stressed the importance of seeking knowledge from Islamic scholars and fostering connections between religious leaders and scholars through constructive dialogue and perspectives. Anwar stressed that Malaysia Madani must continue to foster economic growth and technology mastery while ensuring that moral values remain the foundation of national development.
