‘Surprisingly sensitive heart’: Shehzad Poonawalla backs comedian Samay Raina after viral Latent moment
Sharing a moment from Raina's show, Poonawalla said people “often judge” the comedian by his “language, his jokes or his viral comebacks & moments”.
Comedian Samay Raina received support from former BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla after a viral moment from his show "India's Got Talent" sparked controversy. Poonawalla defended Raina, stating that people often judge him by his language, jokes and viral moments. However, Poonawalla highlighted Raina's "surprisingly sensitive heart," noting that beneath his irreverent style lies empathy and intelligence.
Raina had faced criticism and legal action in February 2025 over allegations of obscenity and sexually explicit content on his YouTube show, which he later announced a comeback for. Poonawalla praised Raina's journey, emphasizing that it speaks more about him than any single clip. He encouraged people to judge Raina by his actions, rather than his words, and cited a specific instance where Raina's decision to give marks in a game helped a young girl win.
Poonawalla also mentioned that Raina's parents hold a special place in his heart, praising his love, responsibility and devotion towards them. He urged people to stay decent and humble, and reminded them that values are better seen in how one lives, not just how one speaks. Raina received felicitation from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier this week at an event where the Maharashtra Cyber awareness film was unveiled.
