Surat BJP leader’s son, woman friend held for abetment days after his wife’s ‘suicide’

Surat's rural police apprehended Saurabh Singh, a 26-year-old son of a former BJP women's wing vice president, and his female companion on Saturday, mere days following his wife's alleged suicide. Saurabh Singh is the son of Sashi Sanjay Singh Rajput, a former BJP women's wing vice president in Surat. The incident sparked a complaint from Nidhi Kumari's brother, Aditya Kumar Singh, who lodged a report against his sister-in-law and her male friend.

Nidhi Kumari, aged 24, allegedly took her own life at her family's residence in Kadodara town on Tuesday, while her husband and other relatives were absent. Upon returning home, Sashi Rajput discovered his wife's lifeless body hanging in her bedroom. He promptly contacted his wife, son and reported the incident to the police. A police team was dispatched to the residence, where the body was sent for postmortem examination.

Doctors subsequently discovered a suicide note penned in Hindi, discovered while examining Nidhi's clothing.

During the investigation, it emerged that Nidhi's suicide note alluded to "frequent arguments" with her husband over allegations of his illicit relationship with her female friend. The Kadodara police are currently conducting further inquiries to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
