Sheridan football leapfrogs Watkins Memorial in second half

In a thrilling football game on August 28, Sheridan faced Watkins Memorial with a 14-13 deficit in the fourth quarter. Senior quarterback Tyce Whiteman delivered a crucial third-and-14 play, finding senior receiver James Solomon on a targeted pass. Solomon adjusted mid-flight, catching the ball and dragging his toe into the end zone, dragging Watkins Memorial’s defense.

Whiteman then connected with senior receiver Reed Parkison for the game-winning touchdown. Two-point conversion attempts followed, with Sheridan leading 21-14. Watkins Memorial initially dominated the line of scrimmage, as sophomore defensive lineman Jacob Markelonis recovered a fumble from senior running back Logan Russell on Sheridan’s first play, leading to a 3-yard rushing touchdown by senior running back Graham Smith.

Further scoring in the first half saw Smith rush for 51 yards on fourth-and-1, followed by a 3-yard score for junior quarterback Frank Tanzillo. Despite the early lead, the Generals rallied in the second half, with senior leadership stepping up and the defense restricting Watkins to minimal yardage. The final play, a Whiteman pass to Parkison, sealed the victory for Sheridan.
