Shaw and Wilson trade goals in Gotham's 1-1 draw with the Thorns

In a thrilling 1-1 draw, Gotham FC and the Portland Thorns shared the points in their match on Friday night. The only other game in the National Women’s Soccer League saw the San Diego Wave secure a 3-2 victory over Racing Louisville. Gotham FC’s Jaedyn Shaw equalized for the hosts in the 61st minute, showcasing her skill by chipping the ball in from outside the box after receiving a pass from Sam Kerr.

Portland’s Sophia Wilson sealed the draw with a penalty kick in the 75th minute, adding her 11th goal of the season. Following video review, it was determined that Portland’s Pietra Tordin had been tripped by Gotham midfielder Jaelin Howell. Rising star Rose Lavelle, who had been a key player for Gotham, had to sit out the match due to a concussion.

Both teams extended their unbeaten streaks with Gotham boasting a record of 10 games without defeat, while Portland Thorns improved to four games without a loss. Additionally, San Diego Wave bounced back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Racing Louisville 3-2, with Trinity Byars scoring twice and Kenza Dali netting the winning goal.

Lauren Milliet put Louisville ahead in the 12th minute, and Taylor Flint added a goal in the 23rd minute, giving the team a 2-0 lead. San Diego responded with goals from Byars in the 47th minute, followed by Byars equalizing in the 76th minute. Dali completed the comeback with a long-range shot in the 80th minute, securing victory for the Wave (12-7-3) after they had dropped consecutive games after a four-match win streak. Racing Louisville’s record now stands at 7-13-2.
