Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the need to remove the law restricting students' freedom as part of Malaysia's independence. He stated that students must be given the space to express themselves and conduct activities more freely, as they are the generation that will shape the country's future. During a recent announcement, he proposed the removal of university statutes that limit and stifle student activities.

Many parents and students reacted negatively, but Anwar insisted on providing space for young people. He disagreed with introducing additional laws to restrict and intimidate students, as Malaysia is a free country governed by the law. He stressed that the law inherited from colonialism must be abolished, as part of creating a truly independent nation.

Anwar highlighted the importance of giving confidence to the youth to voice their opinions and ideas, even when they may be mistaken, through appropriate channels. He emphasized that this approach is crucial in forming a bold, responsible, and capable generation for Malaysia's development as a truly free nation. Independence is not just freedom from physical oppression, he added, but also means citizens have the space to determine the nation's future.

Furthermore, the younger generation must understand the struggle for independence and use it to create a new history that elevates and honors Malaysia on the international stage.
