Pims fire: PM Shehbaz orders suspension, criminal action against 8 officials as inquiry panel submits interim report

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has suspended and taken criminal action against eight officials, including the executive director of Pims, following a fire at the hospital that killed 14 infants. The decision was based on recommendations from an inquiry committee, presented during a high-level meeting in Lahore. The eight officials are the hospital's ED, two joint executive directors, the head of the neonatal department, a senior registrar, a security assistant director, and the director general of the Emergency Services of the Capital Development Authority.

The prime minister also appointed a nurse and a female guard to special duties and approved a Sitara-i-Khidmat award and Rs1 million for a nurse who saved a child. CCTV footage of the incident was shown during a meeting with ministers, who visited the children's ward and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. The government is awaiting the inquiry committee's report to determine responsibility for the fire.
