PDP rejects Uba Sani’s blame of El-Rufai over N6.7bn monthly debt deductions

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned Governor Uba Sani's claim that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai is responsible for the state's N6.7 billion monthly debt deductions. In a statement released by the state party chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the PDP rejected any attempt to rewrite history or shift responsibility.

The PDP acknowledged Governor Sani's disclosure of the magnitude of the state's debt burden but firmly rejected any suggestion that El-Rufai failed to prudently manage the $350 million World Bank loan approved in March 2020. Masha explained that Uba Sani had played a leading role in the Senate's approval of the loan, later taking responsibility for its prudent deployment.

He criticized Governor Sani for publicly defending the loan, asking to be held accountable for its effective utilization, and then shifting blame for the repayment burden to the current administration. The PDP urged the governor to take responsibility for the debt burden under his administration and provide clear solutions to manage the situation, protect essential services, and reduce the financial pressure on Kaduna's finances.
