Nurulhidayah rules out Parliament bid while father Zahid is MP

Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has ruled out contesting a parliamentary seat as long as her father remains an MP, maintaining her father's belief that politics should not be a family affair. She remains a member of the Wanita Umno executive council. Nurulhidayah's father, who has served as the MP for Bagan Datuk since 1995, expressed that he doesn't want his daughter to vie for a parliamentary seat to prevent perceptions that politics is a family business.

Should Nurulhidayah decide to contest, a state assembly seat may be the alternative. A recurring issue in politics involves family members simultaneously holding parliamentary positions, such as Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, or Karpal Singh and Gobind Singh Deo. Meanwhile, Nurulhidayah emphasized the need to fortify the Barisan Nasional's infrastructure in preparation for the forthcoming election, despite ongoing legal battles against several party leaders.

She advocated for the machinery to continue its role in ensuring BN's victory, irrespective of potential collaborations with other political parties. Issues like the royal commission of inquiry into Tabung Haji and corruption allegations have hindered BN's efforts temporarily. Nurulhidayah's remarks come after MIC deputy president M Saravanan alleged receiving RM1.097 million in bribes for approving foreign worker quota approvals.
