Nightclub owner, divorced dad sentenced for involvement in cocaine-trafficking case

Three individuals, comprising a Winnipeg nightclub owner and a divorced father in financial distress, have been sentenced for their roles in a cocaine-trafficking case, according to city police. Their involvement came to light during Project Roasted, a comprehensive investigation launched by the Winnipeg Police Service's organized crime unit.

The trio was apprehended as part of this operation, with Mohamed Ali and Abdullah Khan arrested in February 2024 at the Stella's nightclub and Ahmed Dini discovered at his residence. All three were subsequently charged in early 2024, with Ali and Khan pleading guilty to possession for trafficking purposes, while Dini accepted a charge related to a drug offence.

Notably, former Winnipeg Police constable Elston Bostock was implicated in the investigation, facing corruption charges and subsequently serving seven years in prison. Despite initial concerns about potential interference from Bostock, the investigation proceeded, leading to Ali's conviction as the primary target. The sentencing of these individuals underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and corruption within the police force.
