Nepal President Thanks India For Support After Devastating Flood; 626 Dead, Over 2,400 Missing

Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel expressed gratitude to India for its support following the devastating flash flood that struck his nation on August 26, resulting in 626 deaths and over 2,400 people still missing. In a social media post, Paudel thanked Indian President Droupadi Murmu and the Indian government for their "kind concern" and "generous support" during the calamity.

The President further conveyed condolences to the Government and people of India for the loss of their nationals in the disaster. India has been providing relief and rescue assistance, with the third flight carrying aid arriving in Kathmandu on Friday. The supplies were accepted by Nepal's Minister Mahabir Pun.

India also dispatched an 11-member medical and tunnel rescue team to assist in the ongoing efforts. The Ministry of External Affairs reported that 21 Tamil Nadu residents, 63 workers at the Trishuli-I hydropower project, and around 100 stranded pilgrims from Maharashtra were rescued and returned to their respective states.

The death toll in Nepal's Bhotekoshi flood disaster has risen to 626, while 2,426 people remain missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. Chitwan recorded the highest number of bodies recovered, totaling 233. The ongoing rescue and relief operations highlight the critical importance of rapid cross-border assistance during such a severe disaster.
