MP School Education Report Card: No District Crosses 60% Mark, 45 Of 55 Stuck In ‘Prachesta-2’

Madhya Pradesh’s school education system is struggling, with no district scoring above the 60% mark in the 2025-26 Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D). Out of 55 districts, 45 are categorized in Prachesta-2, six in Prachesta-1, and four in the lowest Prachesta-3. Sidhi emerged as the top performer with 333 points (55.5%) and Prachesta-1 status, followed by Ujjain, Shajapur, Damoh, Narsimhapur, and Sagar.

However, even Sidhi's score fell short of the 60% benchmark. Jhabua recorded the lowest score at 226 points (37.7%), placing it in Prachesta-3. Major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior also failed to achieve the required performance grade. The report highlights issues beyond overall scores, such as infrastructure, learning outcomes, school safety, and digital learning.

For instance, in Indore, infrastructure was assessed at 41%, while learning outcomes and school safety were around 47% and 37%, respectively. Barwani scored lowest in digital learning (16%), while Sagar and Dhar were below 24% in this category. Congress state chief Jitu Patwari criticized the state government, citing the report's figures to argue that school education issues persist in both urban and tribal districts.
