Modi heads to Central Asia as India widens its circle

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a significant four-day, two-nation diplomatic tour to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, commencing on August 29 and concluding on September 1. This visit, aimed at bolstering bilateral ties and fostering regional cooperation, is supported by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

During his State Visit to Tashkent on August 29-30, Prime Minister Modi will engage in strategic discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This marks Modi's fourth visit to Uzbekistan, where both leaders will align their long-term growth strategies, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, and education.

Notably, the visit includes Modi's homage at the Shastri Memorial and a visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies. After Tashkent, PM Modi will travel to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit from August 31 to September 1. This summit marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO, of which India has been a full member since 2017.

As the main summit unfolds, Prime Minister Modi will advocate for India's strategic priorities: Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity. Apart from the main summit and bilateral discussions, the Prime Minister will also attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, celebrating Central Asia's rich cultural heritage. This high-profile tour highlights India's ongoing efforts to strengthen its strategic footprint, economic integration, and security links in Central Asia.
