MK Party urged to embrace democracy ahead of local elections

The Umkhonto weSizwe party must adopt democratic principles or risk poor performance in the upcoming local government elections, according to political analysts. This concern was voiced after recent expulsions within the party. The National Dispute Resolution Committee (NDRC) held an emergency meeting to bolster the party's provincial structures ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Two members of Parliament, Dr Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala and Pumlani Kubukeli, were expelled for actions that discredited the party. Dr Ntsikelelo Breakfast and Professor Zwelinzima Ndevu, two political analysts, warned that frequent changes in senior leadership could negatively impact the party's electoral prospects. They stated that the party risks failing to make progress in the local government elections, which could be disastrous.

With only two months remaining until the elections, political instability is a growing concern among voters, questioning the party's leadership and future direction.
