Matt LaFleur: Packers ‘fully anticipate’ RB Josh Jacobs to remain on roster

Matt LaFleur, head coach of the Green Bay Packers, has firmly stated that starting running back Josh Jacobs will remain on the team roster despite Jacobs being charged with battery and criminal damage to property. The charges stem from an incident captured on video at Jacobs' residence. In the video, an unnamed woman, believed to be Jacobs' girlfriend, claims she was thrown to the ground by Jacobs, leaving visible marks on her face and neck.

She also sustained a head injury. Jacobs did not receive a "domestic violence enhancer" on his charges, as Wisconsin law requires proof of a pre-existing relationship between the perpetrator and the victim for such a designation. If found guilty, Jacobs is likely to receive probation and participate in a batterers intervention program, similar to previous cases in Wisconsin.

The NFL typically imposes a five- to six-game suspension for domestic violence cases, but it remains unclear whether this would apply to the 2026 or 2027 season for Jacobs. At present, it is probable that Green Bay will release Jacobs before the 2027 season, as his salary increases to $16.6 million in 2027, while his dead cap is reduced to $3.1 million.

This could save the Packers $13.5 million in cap space if they part ways with Jacobs next year. The video footage from Jacobs' residence has not been released publicly, and LaFleur has not commented on whether he or the team has viewed it. The Packers' response to the video's public release remains uncertain.
