Mahama tasks Zanetor with pursuing job creation without harming environment

Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has instructed Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to pursue development that generates jobs and economic opportunities while safeguarding the country's environment. Mahama emphasized that economic growth and environmental protection must be pursued concurrently to secure natural resources and provide sustainable prospects for future generations.

In an address following her swearing-in ceremony on August 29 at Jubilee House, Mahama tasked Agyeman-Rawlings with leading Ghana to achieve development that creates jobs and expands opportunities without harming the environment. The President directed the ministry to prioritize science, technology, and innovation as central to Ghana's development agenda, urging greater backing for scientific research and local innovators, along with enhanced collaboration among universities, research institutions, and industry.

Mahama urged the ministry to generate opportunities for young people to utilize science and technology in sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, energy, climate resilience, manufacturing, and the digital economy. The President stressed that environmental protection must be grounded in robust science, efficient regulation, steadfast enforcement, and the active participation of affected communities.

Additionally, Mahama called for closer collaboration between the Environment Ministry and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, highlighting the importance of cooperation in areas like sanitation, land-use planning, waste management, and climate resilience. Mahama reminded Agyeman-Rawlings to consult professionals, respect her institution, and ensure the prudent management of public resources, expressing confidence in her ability to advance the government's development agenda while protecting the environment for future generations.
