Liverpool held by Forest on Iraola’s Anfield debut

On his first official match as Liverpool's manager, Andoni Iraola guided his team to a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Anfield. However, Alexander Isak briefly restored balance for Liverpool in the second half. Just as it appeared Liverpool were gaining momentum, Forest's Liam Delap scored from a quick throw-in, making it 2-2. Iraola brought on Bradley Barcola, who could be crucial for the Reds in their next match against Ipswich. The French winger had been on Liverpool's radar for some time, with a £106 million move from Paris St-Germain reportedly nearing completion.

Despite a record £450 million investment in new signings, Liverpool's defensive performance remained inconsistent, with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong leaving the match. Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz struggled to make an impact, with Isak and Wirtz again failing to live up to their transfer fees. Liverpool's defense continued to be vulnerable, with Jeremy Jacquet producing a crucial block to deny Igor Jesus, and Ndoye hitting the post with a header.

Despite these setbacks, Liverpool will be hoping for Barcola's arrival to bolster their attack, as Cody Gakpo's effectiveness has been limited in his first two games.
